I’ve always loved walking along the beach. Our South Australian beaches are perfect for it. The sand is creamy white and powder soft, so soft it squeaks between your toes. On a summer day the water is a deep clear aqua and small waves lap the sand. It’s Sunday morning and my husband and I have just come back from our beach walk, followed by a wander round the local market. The sun was shining and the air was fresh with that faint salty scent that epitomises the beach. Others like us were making the most of the beautiful morning – jogging, cycling, walking their dogs, strolling hand in hand, swimming or enjoying a coffee at a beachfront cafe. The foreshore was alive and happy. Every moment of it was a moment of joy. Beach walk at dusk Waves ricochet in sequence breaking along the beach abating to seething fizz like cold champagne that’s just been poured. The orchestral tone of a baseline echo a boom subdued in the background. A seagull squawks as it circles aloft near inaudible words in the distance. Titi ke titi ke titi ke the reply of an unseen bird in the cliffs. Thud thud thud the approach that seems to pursue but passes on another mission. A humming of cars that rises then fades as it nears and then is gone. Thongs clip by with a phrase or two of part of a conversation. And the waves crash on in sequence along the beach. ...

What if instead of trying to find a cure for breast cancer, there was a way to prevent it. Doctors in Cleveland have developed a vaccine for a virus they believe is responsible for certain types of breast cancer. It's Saturday, which makes it a great day to start with. And it's summer, which makes it even better. When I went outside this morning I was greeted by the still warmth of a glorious Adelaide summer. I've had a really busy week at work and I'm tired. I got caught up in traffic on the way home because there were accidents and roadworks on the three major roads I can take. Luckily, through taking a side street and weaving my way through to an alternate route I still managed to get home in time to ...

In his wonderful book, 'Too Soon Old, Too Late Smart', Gordon Livingstone says, 'The three components of happiness are something to do, someone to love, and something to look forward to.' It's a simple formula and surely something we can all have. It depends on how we view the things around us - how...

So next Wednesday is my final round of Chemo. Hooray! Then off to Canberra for 30 sessions of radiotherapy. I'm nervous and sad. Nervous because I am not sure how it will affect me and sad because for the majority of the next 7 weeks my family will be on the South Coast and I will be in Canberra. I ...

I had a glimpse of normality this week as I went back to work. I am just over 2weeks post op and it is just over a week before I head back in for a second op. Although it was good to get back to some sort of routine, I found myself extremely tired in the afternoons and for some unknown reason I am w...
